Minimum Construction Requirements for Water Bores In Australia

This is used extensively by regulators and the drilling industry, and provides a consistent standard reference across Australia for the licensing of bores and drillers.

Finding A Suitable Site

Things to consider before choosing your bore location:

  • Check logo

Underground & overhead services such as septic, Telstra, NBN & electrical.

  • Check logo

Existing structures such as family home, sheds & fencing.

  • Check logo

    Proximity to electricity supply.

  • Check logo

    Solar pump or electrical?

There are some scientific methods of selecting a water bore site. A local driller can often provide information on bores already drilled in your area. Water divining could be used to select a site and help increase the chances of obtaining useful supplies.

It is important to note that the very best hydro-geologist or bore hole driller can only be guided by available evidence and cannot guarantee the quality or quantity of water found.

Previous ground water site details can be accessed through Water NSW Real-time Data Website, where information is captured on existing bores, depths, quantities and quality.

A suitable site for a water bore is really the land owners responsibility.

Access For Our Equipment

Once you've identified a suitable location for your bore, you'll need to think about how our equipment will enter your property. You may need to remove part of your fence to allow the equipment to access your property.

It's a clever thing to plan how the drilling equipment will enter your property to avoid getting an unpleasant surprise when it's time to embark on your project.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long does it take to get my licence approved?

plus

Your approval from WaterNSW for a Stock & Domestic bore can take from one week to one month depending on your individual licencing requirements. Irrigation licences will take longer.

When will you be able to complete the work?

plus

Your personalised quote will be sent to you for approval. Once this is approved by you and you forward your WaterNSW approval, we will be able to provide you with an ETA for commencement of works.

What about noise/mess?

plus
  • Drilling a bore hole may produce several cubic metres of spoil.
  • We use a compressor to inject water for dust suppression that will produce muddy water. An environmentally friendly solution is used to help break down the debris which results in a large amount of foam. This foam will naturally biodegrade over a few days. A third-party vacuum truck can be booked to keep the area clean (third-party charges apply). Our drilling crew will do their best to contain the foam and muddy water as much as possible.
  • We recommend advising your neighbours that drilling will be taking place as a compressor will be running throughout the drilling process. There will also be dust and vibration.

What is a Dry Bore VS a Water Bore?

plus
  • A dry bore is where no water is found and the bore is backfilled.
  • A water bore is where water is found and the bore is developed.

What is the probability of finding water / how deep will I have to drill

plus

Each bore will have its own characteristics. Bores that are only metres apart can have completely different water levels and delivery capabilities. We will research the depths and formations of other bores in your area. This is only a guide, as the actual depth cannot be guaranteed in advance.

It is important to note that the very best hydro-geologist or borehole driller can only be guided by available evidence and cannot guarantee the quality or quantity of water found.

How do I purchase a pump for my bore?

plus

Once invoicing is finalised, we will forward your Form A documents to you. These documents are then taken to your preferred pump supplier who will tailor make the pump to your needs.

I’ve got a bore, but I want to go deeper or have it cleaned out?

plus
  • We do not recommend deepening existing bores. There is a high risk of damage to our rods and risk of collapse resulting in additional costs to you.
  • We do not recommend cleaning an existing bore as a viable long-term solution.

Do you offer free quotes?

plus

Absolutely. We offer free, no-obligation quotes. Please contact us via the enquiry form or contact the office on (02) 6742 7021.
